On Sunday, May 17 over one thousand people were on hand to witness the unveiling of the replica of the exhumed remains of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, here at the National Centre for Padre Pio, to the deafening cheers of the people: "Evviva San Pio"!.
After the unveiling the crowds escorted Saint Pio in a beautiful procession in which the various societies were able to carry and display their proud banners! Represented were the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society of Brooklyn, New York, the Saint Anthony Society; the San Cono Society of Teggiano; St. Michael Society of Sturno, Avellino; the Societies of the Parishes of Santa Rosalia and Regina Pacis. On hand to walk in the procession were the President of the Society of Padre Raffaele of Sant'Elia a Pianisi and even the descendents of the Servant of God Padre Raffaele. Many more too numerous to be mentioned were led through the grounds of the Centre by the Giglio Band of Brooklyn as Saint Pio and La Madonna della Libera were escorted on their personal float.
The Founder of the Societa Mutuo Soccorso di San Padre Pio, of Brooklyn, Joseph Santoro, whose Society is responsible for having commissioned the beautiful replica, helped to organize the event and he and the members of his society were present for the day. Mr. Santoro, during a discussion with Mr. Calandra, the Centre's President and Co- Founder, remarked at the overwhelming outpouring of love and devotion demonstrated that day for Saint Pio; the emotions were high. Tears in many eyes, smiles on many faces and prayers on every lip! Every one, giving thanks to Almighty God for this great gift of Padre Pio in their lives! Every one thanking Padre Pio for leading them always to Jesus through Mary!
The replica of the remains of Saint Pio is currently on display in the Saint Pio Museum and Cultural Centre here on the grounds of the National Centre and all are invited to visit and spend the day with us. You will be sure to enjoy the many other beautiful exhibits in the Museum and all that the Centre has to offer.
