COVID-19 Relief Fund

COVID-19 Relief Fund

We humbly ask for your financial support at this time due to the severe financial impact that Covid-19 has had on the income of your National Centre for Padre Pio.

We won’t beat around the bush – we are currently facing a budget shortfall of roughly $150,000 this year. This financial crisis is directly related to the crushing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Government mandates forced us to shut our doors for months to the thousands of pilgrims and visitors we typically welcome here. We rely on the gifts received from these devotees of Padre Pio for the upkeep of the Centre – and to spread devotion to St. Pio across the world.

Even now, as the Faithful are becoming more confident in visiting public places, we are still not yet close to receiving the normal pre-pandemic numbers of pilgrims to the Centre. Because we are primarily a spiritual “destination,” our main sources of revenue come from the free-will offerings of visitors as well as sales in our gift shop. The majority of our pilgrims come to us via large bus groups. Unfortunately, bus companies were forced to stop booking trips as of March 2020, and a number of them have gone out of business completely due to the pandemic.

Before the pandemic, upwards of 100 bus groups per year would visit the Centre – but during the past year, we received fewer than five!

And with many states having travel bans in place over the past 12 months, out-of-state pilgrims were in many cases unable to visit us even by car. Fear of contracting Covid-19 also hinders many who want to grow closer to St. Pio from visiting his shrine.

As you can imagine, more and more people have contacted us during the pandemic seeking spiritual help through Padre Pio. We never want to turn away anyone who is in need, but our resources have been stretched thin.

The needs of the Faithful who contact us have greatly increased due to the pandemic, while our financial resources have decreased during the same period.

At the same time, the buildings and grounds continue to require ongoing maintenance. And the utility bills keep coming as well.

In a nutshell, we have tried to make do with less during this time of great need in our Church and among Padre Pio’s devotees. But we are in great need of your financial assistance at this time in order to make up for this pandemic-related shortfall – so that we can continue confidently in our Mission of Leading Souls to God through Padre Pio.

In return for your generosity, it will certainly be our pleasure to place your name and your prayer petitions on a glove worn by Padre Pio, as well as to remember you and your intentions in our daily Rosary and all Masses offered here at the National Centre for Padre Pio.

Of course, no gift is ever required for you to receive our prayers! So even if you are unable to send a gift at this time, we hope you will send us your prayer intentions anyway. However, if you are able to help us overcome this financial crisis, we pray that you will.

Our foundress, Vera M. Calandra, had a “grass roots” group of devotees whom she personally relied on during times of great need at the Centre – but most of these dear souls have since passed on. We pray you may be willing to step forward and become one of the next generation of benefactors to personally take the Centre under your wing.
